The Remora Training #5: Practical Management of European Projects took plane online on 27th May, bringing together REMORA partners for a practical session on the management and coordination of Horizon Europe projects. The training was delivered by Ömer Ceylan, Senior Consultant at Europa Media Group (EMG), who shared his experience of working on European research and innovation projects and provided participants with practical guidance on the different stages of project implementation.
The session started with an overview of the EU project lifecycle, looking at the main implementation stages of a research and innovation project and the different responsibilities of the coordinator and beneficiaries. Participants then looked at the first steps after a project is approved, including Grant Agreement preparation, kick-off meetings, first deliverables and the set-up of project management and monitoring systems. The session also covered internal organisation, the distribution of roles within a consortium and ways of setting up an effective communication system between partners. A set of Word and Excel templates was shared with participants as practical tools for project management.
Another part of the training focused on reporting and management obligations under Horizon Europe. Ömer provided an introduction to continuous and periodic reporting, including reporting timelines, responsabilities, the Periodic Report template and the project payment schedule. The training also included an interactive Mentimeter quiz, where participants worked through a series of common project management challenges and discussed possible ways of addressing them. The session ended with Q&A, giving participants the opportunity to raise questions and discuss practical aspects of managing European projects.
About the trainer
Ömer Ceylan is a Senior Consultant at Europa Media Group (EMG), where he is involved in the development of new proposals and the implementation of ongoing projects. With more than 15 years of experience in developing and implementing EU-funded projects and European Commission contracts, he has worked across a range of areas including energy, environment, sustainable development, competitiveness, research and innovation, enlargement and external policies. His experience includes several European funding programmes, such as Horizon 2020, Horizon Europe, LIFE/LIFE+, Structural Funds and EuropeAid.
Through his training, REMORA partners had the opportunity to strengthen their practical knowledge of project management and gain useful tools and insights for the implementation of future European projects.
