REMORA passes its mid-term review with flying colours
The REMORA project has successfully completed its mid-term review, receiving an outstanding assessment from the European Commission evaluators. One reviewer concluded the session with a remark that speaks for itself:
“We deserve projects like REMORA!”
a testament to the quality and coherence of the work carried out since the project’s launch.
This milestone review served to verify that all deliverables, milestones, budget lines, and contractual obligations were on track, while also providing an opportunity to recalibrate the strategy for the second phase of the project.
First impacts already visible
Beyond administrative compliance, the review highlighted that REMORA is already generating concrete results in its three partner institutions – CITEB (Azores), OKEANOS (Azores), and OOM/ARDITI (Madeira):
- Three research institutions’ top management are now strengthening their HR strategies to better attract and retain talent in line with the European Charter & Code for Researchers.
- Researchers from the outermost regions are actively positioning themselves to lead Horizon Europe proposal development for the 2026–2027 calls.
- Policy-makers within the partner territories are designing new tools to boost synergies between the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and Horizon Europe.
A project built for impact
REMORA – funded by the European Union’s Horizon Europe programme (Grant Agreement n°101159246) – was designed to close the innovation gap in marine sciences for research centres located in Europe’s outermost regions. The project brings together three beneficiary institutions (CITEB, OKEANOS, OOM) with four advanced partners: Ruizia, DTU – Technical University of Denmark, ERINN Innovation, and the AIR Centre.
The successful mid-term review confirms that REMORA is not only delivering on its commitments, but is already creating lasting institutional change that will outlive the project itself. The consortium now moves forward with renewed energy into the second phase, focused on capacity building, proposal development, and international networking.
