Our Unique Contribution to Global Ocean Science
Why Outermost Regions Matter
"Strategically Positioned for Global Impact"
Together La Reunion, Madeira and Açores span over key maritime zones across the Indian and Atlantic Oceans, offering unique opportunities for advancements in marine research, technologies and innovations.
Their geostrategic location, distinctive marine habitats and dynamic R&I communities position these islands as living labs to understand, protect and use wisely coastal and oceanic ecosystems.
Through innovative science, methods, and products become pivotal players in international ocean governance and conservation and address major challenges such as climate change, biodiversity and habitats conservation and the development of thriving coastal communities.
With this in mind REMORA aims to transform CITEB, OKEANOS and OOM - 3 Ocean and Marine ESIF-funded institutions in La Réunion, Madeira and the Azores - into Horizon Europe champions.

Oceanic Observatory of Madeira (OOM) is a technological platform that aims to provide high-resolution, high-quality scientific data from Madeira EEZ for public and private sectors, the scientific community and society in general. With the aim of stimulating the sustainable development of the Blue Economy, specialised technicians have been hired and a range of state-of-the-art equipment has been acquired.

CITEB benefits the Biotechnology platform of La Reunion with notably a controlled temperature room with CITEB microalgae collection as well as cutting-edge labs for: water quality, biotoxins & biology activities, cell biology, genetic, analytical chemistry, RMN, insectarium. CITEB also holds a technical humid platform in Le Port with facilities for aquatic resources production (cylindro-conicals, aquariums in seawater recirculated system and water treatment system, 50m3 ponds in thermostable room, 2 & 8m3 ponds / 20m3 ponds, rectangular basin of 15m3, pumping seawater system)
